The word hung there, smug and hollow.
“You laughed,” I said quietly.
He shrugged. “Perspective matters.”
I didn’t threaten him.

I simply left.
And when I got to my truck, I called one number I hadn’t dialed in years.
“Cole,” the voice answered.

There was no hesitation.

By sunrise, the street outside my house looked like a war memorial made of chrome and leather.
More than a hundred bikes lined the block, engines idling low, riders silent, disciplined, waiting.
Olivia stood behind me on the porch, wrapped in a leather jacket that read PROTECTED across the back in stitched white thread, her breath hitching as she realized something fundamental had shifted.
